Joseph Sutton, Executive Assistant
Joseph hails from the chalk cliffs and sandy beaches of the Isle of Wight in the UK, where he developed a deep appreciation for the natural world. There, he witnessed his local community trying to protect and steward nearby ecosystems, which are home to some of England’s last native wildflower meadows and red squirrel populations. He was particularly inspired by the farmers in his hometown, who introduced beehives to support the flourishing of endangered wildflower meadows while offsetting lost income from forgoing the logging of ancient tree copses. It was these community efforts that ignited his own passion to pursue a career in conservation.
Joseph pursued this passion at SOAS University of London, where he earned a degree in Politics and International Relations. There, he delved into conservation efforts from around the world, with a particular focus on Canada, deepening his understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with protecting ecosystems. Throughout his career, Joseph has honed his skills in project management, administration, social media, and fundraising. He has applied these capabilities to various environmental organizations across the UK and Canada, contributing to their conservation missions and fostering greater public engagement with environmental causes.
Since arriving in Canada, Joseph has immersed himself in the stunning ecosystems that drew him across the Atlantic, particularly BC’s old-growth temperate rainforests. He is thrilled to support the protection of Canada’s most endangered ecosystems in his role at the Nature-Based Solutions Foundation. When he isn’t organizing his calendar at work, Joseph can often be found camping and hiking—his favorite ways to connect with the Canadian landscapes he has grown to love and cherish.
